Rights for Survivors

Survivors of sexual assault, dating violence, stalking or domestic violence have the right to obtain:  

1. Assistance from campus authorities in reporting a crime to law enforcement.  

2. A change in academic, working, living or transportation arrangements to avoid a hostile environment.  

3. Enforcement of a restraining order or “no contact” directive.  

4. A clear description of the school's disciplinary process including the range of possible sanctions.  

5. Information about existing counseling, health, mental health, victim advocacy, legal assistance, visa and immigration assistance, student financial aid and other services available for victims, both within the institution and in the community.

Survivors of sexual assault, dating violence, stalking or domestic violence may:  

1. Notify appropriate law enforcement authorities, including on-campus and local police.  

2. Receive assistance from school personnel in notifying such authorities, if the student requests such assistance.  

3. Decline to notify such authorities.  

4. Change their academic, living, transportation or working situations, if those changes are requested and are reasonably available, regardless of whether or not the victim chooses to file a police report.  

5. Seek confidential advocacy and support. ​
