The Federal Work Study (FWS) Program provides meaningful work experience for eligible students who demonstrate financial need. While earning money to help pay educational expenses, students are encouraged to find work related to their course of study or interest as well as community service work.

​General information

  • ​You can work up to 20 hours per week.  Note: the maximum number of hours will be determined by the supervisor.
  • All Federal Work Study positions are paid at $20 per hour.
  • All Federal Work Study employees must submit a weekly timesheet in Work Day.
  • ​You will receive a bi-weekly pay check for the hours worked during the corresponding pay period.
  • Federal Work Study is only available to currently enrolled and registered students at Saybrook.​

Eligibility

  • ​​Interested students must first complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid  (FAFSA) form listing Saybrook University (code G21206) as a recipient.
  • Students must be enrolled at least half-time and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
  • The student must be a United States citizen or non-citizen national of the United States. International students are encouraged to apply for non-FWS jobs.
  • Students must also submit the Student Employment Eligibility Form  (SEEF) to Financial Aid using the Community Site. Once the form has been reviewed and completed by a financial aid advisor, the student will receive a FWS authorization letter and must present the letter during the interview.

  • Are FWS wages taxed?  Yes, Work-Study earnings are taxable.
  • Can I work two FWS jobs?  Yes, you will need to coordinate your hours to ensure you do not exceed 20 hours per week.  You will also need to work with both supervisors to coordinate logging time worked in both departments and inputting the time in Work Day.
  • Can I work during the summer?  Yes, you may work during the summer.  We encourage you to check with your supervisor to discuss how many hours you may work.
  • Can I continue working if I take a Leave of Absence?  No, you may not work while you are on a Leave of Absence.  We encourage you to inform your supervisor if you are planning to take a leave to discuss the availability of the position upon your return to active enrollment.
