 Mission

The Saybrook Department of Research and the IRB collaborates with academic units and serves as a support to Saybrook students, faculty, staff, and alumni who conduct research activities. The Department of Research offers engaging learning opportunities and comprehensive support to prepare Saybrook students to be successful researchers, who contribute to their academic fields and change communities.

The Saybrook Institutional Review Board (IRB) is committed to ensuring that all research conducted by Saybrook faculty, staff, and students is designed ethically and to protect human participants. In accordance with our federal wide assurance (FWA# 00014486), the Saybrook IRB committee reviews research to ensure compliance with the requirements of the federal Health and Humans Services (HHS) Protection of Human Subjects regulations (45 CFR 46), state, and local regulations.

The Department of Research and the IRB, in line with the humanistic values of Saybrook University, aims to create and promote a university culture that values the rights, welfare, privacy, and dignity of research participants. We promote rigorous and high-quality research that follows the ethical principles outlined in the Belmont Report: respect for persons, beneficence, and justice.
